On October 15, 2026, Krafton India made a big announcement. The light version of BGMI, which was called BGMI Lite, now has a new name: BGMI Air.
Krafton posted on Instagram: "BGMI LITE is now BGMI Air. Lighter name, same heavy action."
This means: the name is lighter, but the game is still full of action.
Why Did They Change the Name?
- "Lite" sounds like a weak version.
In gaming, the word "Lite" often makes people think the game is cut down or not as good. Krafton does not want players to feel that way. Their slogan is "Nothing Less, Just Lighter" — nothing is missing, it is just lighter.
- "Air" fits their plan better.
There were rumors that the game might be called "Flash" like the global version. But Krafton India chose their own path. "Air" sounds light and fresh, and it does not feel like a "low quality" version.
Did the Game Change?
No. This is the most important thing to know.
Krafton said the name change does not affect any of their earlier plans. The game is still the same light version of BGMI. Here are the main features:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Download size | About 1GB (the normal BGMI can grow to 8GB) |
| Account | No need to move your account. It is a separate game. Your old BGMI account still works. |
| Cross-play | Yes. BGMI and BGMI Air players can play together. |
| Minimum phone requirements | 1.5GB RAM + Adreno 306 GPU |
| Pre-registrations | More than 10 million people have already signed up |
Why Now?
The name change came soon after pre-registrations crossed 10 million. What does this mean?
Krafton is testing the market. 10 million pre-registrations is a very good number. Changing the name now sends a clear message: this is not a "watered-down" game. It is a real, new product.
Krafton also confirmed that an Open Beta is coming soon. Players will be able to try the game very soon. Only then will we know how good this "light version" really is.
One Important Warning
Right now, you might see fake "BGMI Air APK" download links online. These are all fake. The game is not out yet. Do not trust any download link that is not from Google Play.
If you already pre-registered on Google Play, you do not need to register again. The name change does not affect your pre-registration.
Quick Summary
BGMI Lite is now BGMI Air. This is mostly a name change. The game itself is the same. The download is still around 1GB. The phone requirements are still low. Cross-play still works.
Krafton wants to say one clear thing: this is not a "barely playable" version. It is a real BGMI experience made for Indian players, with a lower barrier to entry.
